A close up 19th C. Kayan gourd poison receptacle with a large Aso head and tiny fine figures, adorned with blue beads and seed bead tassels. East Kalimantan, Borneo, Indonesia. One of my favourite pieces in our private tribal art collection.

Examples of these fine Kayanic pieces are seen published in Traditional weapons of the Indonesian Archipelago pg 50 plate 123 and The Eloquent Dead pg 108 plate 118 and in the Tom Jaffee collection at the Yale University Art Gallery, New York
