The Koi Fish Legend

The whole story about the koi fish has been around for generations of the Japanese culture. The koi in the story was said to have climbed a waterfall. The brave fish wanted it so badly that amidst it's little strength, the koi, fought against the strong currents and swim  through till he reached the top of the falls.

The Chinese version tells us though that it didn't end there yet. The koi swam the entire Yellow River and made it to the Dragon Gate. When the koi completed the journey, he was turned into a magnificent dragon. 

The Meaning

Because of these stories, the koi tattoo has become a symbolism  for those who have made it through tough times and difficult situations.
It depicts individuals who survived a loss of a loved one, life threatening disease, abandonment,debts, calamity, hard life, and a lot more.  That through faith and determination that you can, nothing is impossible.
